Making the Right Choices
What a year this was!
Over the past year fewer HS students refused peer and family pressure to reach out for a drink at parties. (2010 IYS Data)
THEY CHOOSE TO STAY FRESH & STAY SOBER
According to the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) data, the Hermosa Community HS students have started to think more about the consequences of drinking alcohol; they have become more informed, self-confident, and empowered. More students have decided to refuse peer and family pressure to reach for a drink at parties. HURRAY!
This means that the social norms campaign to prevent underage drinking that has been planned and implemented by the Healthy Hermosa Coalition and The Miracle Center is showing positive results, according to the Illinois Youth Survey.
However, changing social norms is a difficult and long-term process that can easily stagnate or be reversed. Therefore, despite some initial successess, we all still have to continue with our efforts and involvement in the campaign in order to build on the initial positive results.
Remember, in our unity there is power!
For more information on how to join our effort to stop underage drinking contact The Miracle Center at (773)276-5933
